Your tax agent tells you, you can $150 claim for laundry relating to your work uniform, is this correct?
We have recently been working with a tax agent that had a standard policy of claiming $150 regardless of the occupation, this has resulted in a heavy audit of his clients and a disallowing of many refunds.
The standard policy was not to the examine the industry or the classification and the standard claim was simply a policy of the office.
The Australian Taxation Office has clearly flagged that this is an area of concern and failing to ensure that any claim is a legitimate expense of the taxpayer appears to be resulting in closer examination of the tax position of the entire lodgements of a practice.
We work closely with firms looking at their standard practices and can assist in developing communication strategies around ensuring compliance.
